Helen Phillips

Now retired from judging tracking and obedience, and from teaching tracking, Helen Phillips began her career in purebred dogs in 1964 and has since amassed over 150 obedience, tracking, agility and herding titles. Four dogs in this group earned both OTCH and TDX and a fifth was the first herding breed triple champion (CH/OTCH/HC). She has owned and trained weimaraners, Irish setters, Rhodesian ridgebacks, papillon, golden retriever, Pembroke welsh corgi, Shetland sheepdogs, and border collies.

Current dogs are border collies, Peak's Nick UDX2, MX, MXJ, HXbs, HXas, A.A.D., HTDIII and Peak's Hot Wired (Jolt) UDX AX AXJ, and Shetland sheepdog, Triune's Kohaku CDX AX AXJ.

Helen teaches private lessons in competition obedience and does occasional heeling and utility workshops and seminars. She also operates a small sheep farm.

During her 45-year membership in Mountain States DTC, Helen chaired numerous committees and has been club president for the past three years. For eight years she chaired and secretaried tracking tests for Terry-All KC, was president of Colorado Stockdog Fanciers, a founding member of Denver Foothills Tracking Association, founder and first chairman of Colorado Canine Search Group, the first canine group utilized by Colorado S&R agencies. And she is an active member of the local AKC agility club.

Helen is the 1998 recipient of the FIDO award as obedience person of the year, was honored with two Gaines Good Sportsmanship awards, served on the 1980 AKC Obedience Advisory Committee, and was one of three final contenders for AKC's Lifetime Achievement Award.
